The Importance of Keeping Your Kids Safe in the Summer

Safety is very important and a sure-fire way to the prevention of fatal injuries. I remind my kids to wear their helmets when they ride their bikes. They are to wear proper clothing and shoes to keep them safe in case something goes wrong, and because an accident can happen anytime to anyone. I like to keep a close eye on my kids when they go swimming at the local pool. They are to read the rules and to know what is expected of them. If I see them slack off or forget a rule, I remind them that running is not allow due to things being more slippery when wet. I trust my son to be home alone if he is at the right age. He is to keep the house locked and allow no strangers in. He is to remain inside the house, as this will lessen the chance of him locking himself out. He’s reminded to call the emergency number and my cell phone if he needs me. If I leave him he’s not alone for very long, not until he’s mature. We do have a Home Security alarm, just not activated. Of course there is our dog who’s very sensitive to people she doesn’t trust. If we were to have the security alarm activated, I’d make sure my kids know the codes, and let them keep those codes a secret, only to themselves.
