I’m sure by now almost everyone has heard of Cryo-Cell and the services that they offer. Cryo-Cell is a “bank” of sorts for stem cells and cord blood basically. They offer different services depending on your individual needs. Right now Cryo-Cell is actually offering a really huge discount for expectant mothers to have their newborn baby’s cord blood stored and preserved. Until Sunday June 28, 2009 expectant families can save $725 on the U-Cord service from Cryo-Cell. All you need to do is use the promotional code “HOT” when ordering the service.
Until today I was not even aware of how many people actually use cord blood banking. Cryo-Cell currently has over 175,000 clients. I also did not know that over 12,000 umbilical cord blood stem cell transplants occured world-wide and have helped to treat over 75 known diseases. There may even be diseases we don’t know of yet that can be treated. Cord blood stem cells are a 100% match for the infant donor, which should be obvious but what I did not know is that the donor’s stem cells also have a 1 in 4 probability of being a match for one of their siblings. This is something else that should be considered. Personally, I wish I had thought of cord blood stem cell preservation.
