It seems that even Wal-Mart, my least favorite store in the Northern (or Southern) hemisphere, is good with keeping up with new technology. Yesterday morning I actually had to go to Wal-Mart because I had to return my son’s MP3 player that I had bought him for his birthday in November. As I said, I don’t usually shop there but I did at this time because they had a good deal on the MP3 player, from what I saw on the web, and money was kind of tight that week. Anyway, when I went in to Wal-Mart to return the item and there was a woman in front of me at the door getting her items checked by the little old door-greeter guy. She had so many items it was crazy. To make a long story short, if it weren’t for the fact that Walmart now implemented the use of barcode scanners to check merchandise at the door instead of hand-writing the barcode on the little tag like they used to do, I’d have been waiting for days for that old lady to get her stuff tagged for the return desk.

It’s newer technology like this that enables more efficient inventory control for retailers and other merchandisers. Nowadays so many companies have implemented this smart technology to make running their businesses more efficient and cost effective. Even hospitals now use barcode scanners to keep track of patients and their medications and dosages. For more information on barcode scanners and data capture solutions, visit Ers-Online.Co.Uk.
