10 Ways You Can Practice Good Blogger Etiquette

Blogger Etiquette..What is it? I’ve been giving this some thought lately because I wonder for my own personal reasons if I practice good blogger etiquette. That question leads me to actually wondering what makes a good blogger, what exactly is blogger etiquette? So I’ve come up with a list of things that I consider blogger etiquette. This list is in no particular order.
1. If someone leaves a comment on your blog, return the comment.
2. Reposting something that you found on someone else’s blog? Give the author credit and link back to their site. Seriously, if you don’t it’s kind of considered stealing in a way.
3. Try to visit your linked sites, like your blogroll, at least once every couple of weeks and leave them a comment on their site. That way you are letting them know that you still visit their blogs.
4. If you find a blog or site that is really cool, interesting, or that you find useful in any way, why not link to it? You might get a reciprocal link. And that’s always nice.
5. Do not hotlink!! People hate to have their bandwidth stolen. I know I do. It’s so rude.
6. Be fair. If someone posts a comment on your site that you don’t agree with, as long as they aren’t cussing you out or telling you to drop dead or whatever, why not let it go through? You’d want to be able to state your opinions on other people’s blogs without having your comments deleted, right?
7. Disclose! If you do sponsored posts, let your readers know. It’s the right that you let them know if you are paid or compensated for some of your posts.
8. If you’re commenting on someone’s website for the first time, it is always good to let them know how you found your way to their site. Bloggers like to know where their visitors are coming from.
9. Leave constructive feedback when you feel it necessary. By that I mean if you know of a way that will help someone improve their site, or just want to give some helpful advice, do so.
10. Be able to accept when you have made a mistake and correct it. Don’t get mad if someone points out something that you’ve said or messed up on. Be glad that someone is letting you know. It might help you to avoid looking like an idiot. No one wants to look like an idiot.
There you have it. Ten ways to practice blogger etiquette. I am not an expert on the subject and this is all merely my own personal opinion, so don’t take this as the ten commandments of blogging. If I left any off, feel free to comment. ![]()

Rules for commenting:
»If you are a first time commenter, your comment will be held for moderation.
»Despair commenters, there is no need to put "despair" by your name. I'm not stupid, I can figure it out.
»If this is a sponsored (paid) post, you can leave a comment on the previous post if you choose to do so.
Thanks :)

I agree with all of them, except for number one - if only because I think it’s better to not comment, than to comment with “nice layout!” or something equally pointless. Just wait ’til they post something you can comment on
Although I agree with you about the whole “nice layout” thing, I still think you should always return the comment. You definitely can wait until there’s something relevant to comment on, but return it nonetheless. Thanks for your input!

THANK YOU <33
Hey, I found your blog through a link from Ritualistic (and this has been the one point of etiquette I accidentally ignore).
All great points. I wish more people would consistently follow them.
I also noticed you have the option to subscribe to comments. This could even be an addition to your list. I tend to be erratic about where I visit, so it is the only thing that lets me know about most responses and I am always happy to see the option!
Great point. I like subscribing to comments too. As with you, it allows me to see who responds to my comments without having to check back on the website constantly. Thanks!
Those are really good tips hon. #1 is my favorite because it’s my peeve when people ignore the fact that others take the time to read their blog and make a comment. Too bad everyone out there can’t be more like you!
