The Dentist

My youngin recently went to the dentist, and he only had 1 cavity. I know.. you’re probably thinking “only?”. But my child has had problem teeth forever, and he brushes them daily and nightly. He has reflux disease and the extra acid causes his tooth erosion, which leads to decay. It’s a constant uphill battle for me because I fear he will end up with bad teeth. I simply don’t know what to do though. I’ve altered what he eats and drinks. He used to eat those fruit snacks like they were going out of style, and I was naive enough to think they were good for him.. made with real fruit and all, and being that they weren’t candy. But that was the beginning of his tooth problems. It seems that the chewie crap that gummies are made of sticks to your teeth and in between your teeth, and causes rapid decay. Oh yay. I am considering getting him that treatment where they coat your teeth with something with some sort of protective layer. (I don’t remember what it’s called). Blah.

Aww that really sucks, but you sound like you’re doing well, changing his diet away from too many sweets and all. I haven’t heard about the protective layer thing but that sounds pretty good, hopefully it’s something that can help. Having bad teeths isn’t fun at all
I suppose though with all the routine checkups and cleanings that should help keep them in good shape, too, right?
Well, yeah routine checkups and cleanings do help.. but he has really bad reflux (GERD) and it the acid causes erosion of the enamel on his teeth. So his teeth are like way more likely to decay than a regular person’s teeth. ;/
oooooh man, i hate teeth problems, it runs in my family like genes lol.
good luck!!! i hope the little man is not in any pain of any sort!
Poor kid. Hopefully it’s not very painfull. I don’t know if it would make a difference with the reflux if you change what he eats. Maybe some things will make it worse and some might make it better but I don’t think it’ll make a HUGE difference.
Hopefully they solve it.
Yes, I believe the dentist can put something for your kid’s teeth. And you are doing well monitoring what he eats and changing what you think will be bad for his teeth. Good luck and I hope you find the best remedy
