Computer desk and snow (aka foam)

So I ordered a desk from Sears, and I’d been anxiously awaiting it’s delivery. Thursday, it arrives.. in pieces. For what we paid for the desk + delivery, I seriously expected it to be at least semi assembled or SOMETHING. But nope. I had around 140 pounds of wood to try and assemble. I procrastinated for the first day.. But started working on it friday night. I had to stop because it got so late, though.. and started up again Saturday night. All together it took about 7 hours to finish. Yes, I said 7 hours. Now that it’s done, though.. I’m happy with it I guess. Now the problem posed is that it’s so big I have to rearrange my room. I’m not overly pleased about that. I’ll post pics of desk later when I finish setting all my shit up on it. :P

Well Friday night while I was working on the desk in my bedroom, my lovely angel of a son decided he wanted to “play” with the foam packing that came in the box. If you’ve ever seen this shit, it’s like a million tiny little foam balls stuck together. He decided it would be fun to pull it all apart to make “snow”. The entire living room, kitchen and dining room were all covered in tiny little foam balls, seriously. And this shit’s got some kind of magnetic cling thing going on.. it was crawling up the walls, stuck to the kitchen stove, on the tv, dining table, coffee table, sofa.. EVERYWHERE. Needless to say, being the neat freak that I am, I was freaking pissed. It took all I had not to bend him over and beat his ass. I’m not a spanker, but I was just that angry. I should have taken a picture though, it looked like a snow storm hit my apartment. After 3 hours of cleaning, though, the foam is all gone and I’m not mad anymore, just tired.

Anyways, I haven’t even had a chance to work on updating the stuff on my website I wanna update. I also had forgotten to do the despair modding, which I finally did on Saturday. I hope she’s not pissed at me. :( I’ve just been so busy.

Well, I guess that’s about it for an update. Sorry for random boringness.

Seven hours?! It better be a flippin’ beautiful desk lol…
Aw man! Yeah you really should have taken a picture… Those foam balls aren’t even fun. It’s all about that bubble wrap you can pop, lol.
I thought about modding at Despair too… But, I already have too much on my plate.

Oh my god, seven hours! O_O I’ve put together furniture from IKEA but nothing took me that long, ever. Must be some desk!

I can feel your pain about the cleaning situation! I would have freaked out if someone did that to my home!

I need to buy a new computer desk and chair and that’s the main reason I haven’t done so yet. I hate assembling things. I bet that “snow” freaked you out, but look at it this way, you’ll have a great story to tell him when he’s older. It’s actually pretty adorable. Well, to me… after all I didn’t have to clean it up.

when me and my family moved to a new house 4 years ago, i threw away my old computer desk leaving me with nothing! my computer was setup on the floor, like literally on the floor. my bro then decided to buy me a new desk from IKEA, which also came into pieces. i didn’t touch the thing (in the box) for like a week until he decided again to assemble it for me.. haha, it took him about 4 hours putting it together.

i remember those foam thingies. yeah, those are fun to play with, but… the mess! haha, omg the mess! im pretty sure you were beat after cleaning up. heh, sorry!

YES, seven hours. And the desk IS beautiful. I love it. The modding really isn’t hard at all, just making sure people do what they are supposed to. I feel it’s worth it, she’s a nice person and provides us all with a great service. ;P

Well, the end result is quite worth the work.. and it’s cheaper to put it together yourself than to buy it pre-built and spend an assload of cash. I was tired, though.. still kind of am. ;x

I’ve been wanting a new desk for a while now, but yesh, a seven hour installation sounds a bit tedious to me. I remember spending about an hour setting up my spinning dvd display and feeling terribly put out that it took that long. I think I might have ended up throwing pieces out the window by the third hour if I was in your shoes.

Ah I know that foam stuff is a pain! My brother did the same thing when he was little in my Dad’s office room in the house. My Mom is a neat freak of course, so she flipped out and screamed at him :x He didn’t understand though, he was only 5. He goes “I was just playing.” But my Mother refused to think about the reason he did it lol. Kids will be kids though!

I never would have had the patience (or attention span) to devote 7 hours to putting a desk together. That takes some seriously dedication! lol.

I know packing materials all too well since I work in a store and am usually the one opening the stuff. We’ve never had a “snowstorm” quite like yours though. Sounds like it was quite the sight…and annoyance.

And I thought Sears was supposed to be easy assembly o.O I guess there can only be one IKEA!!

And the snow is funny, looking back, probably. It reminds me of the time my cat got into those foam things…that static cling works on fur too!

I hope it stays together well!

p.s. thanks for the comment ^_^+

lol.. Believe me I considered throwing them out the window. At times I was completely frustrated with the whole thing.

I am not a big fan of packing foam, and that incident made me like it even less!

It sounds like you had a very tiring day… seven hours of assembling furniture and three hours of cleaning up static snow?! That’s ten hours of absolute boredom.
That desk better turn out to be the best of the best. Haha.

Hope it’s a nice desk…since it took you so long to assemble. And I vote that EVERYTHING should come packaged in bubble wrap. No mess, and it can be lots of fun! :P

Oh, I love re-arranging rooms :) I just did mine yesterday.

3 hours of cleaning - ouch. I cleaned my apartment yesterday, it took me the whole day (I really did clean EVERYTHING), I had no “snow” laying around though ;) I can imagine your little one just LOVED playing with that? I probably would have loved it too, haha. (I am not joking)

I love assembling furniture. You should have had me to help you. Seven hours is a long time though. I don’t think I’ve ever taken that long to assemble anything. Foam boards are fun to play with. I can just picture the “snow” all over.

By the way, I changed my URL to http://suefeng.com
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have a feeling that it would take me even longer than that to set up/build a desk, haha. Now I gotta make a mental note to never buy anything that isn’t assembled.

Oooh! I’ve been wanting to get a new desk for quite some time now. Mine’s rather sad… two cheap, matching bedside tables with a piece of wood across. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either.

What desk did you get? I’ve been looking at Sears ones.

HAHA. Well, I am a single mother and it’s just my son and I. Plus I can’t stand the taste of beer. Next time I have something to put together, can you and your dad come over? :(
